My name is Eric Baur, using the handle “The Riff Dude” on most socials. Guitar riffs are one of the reasons I why I actively listen to metal, hence the handle.

I hold a masters degree in history from Rutgers University and wrote both of my final thesis assignments about metal. That experience set me on my path to this blog.

After deep deliberations, I have concluded that my favorite band is Death. Those who know me know that I am also a huge fan of thrash’s “Big Four” especially Metallica as well as Opeth. While Death is my favorite band and I love the subgenre of death metal, my favorite subgenre is crossover thrash.
